Dune Part 2 Review

A breathtaking work of art that encaptures all of what a movie should be and more.

Even thinking about this movie gives me chills. The contrast, landscape, acting, writing. None if it feels corny, or cringey, or forced - this is like water in its vastness and fluidity. If you are not drawn to sci-fi, this will capture your attention, if you do not like serious movies, you will stare and marvel at the artistry your day has been blessed with. I firmly believe that this movie is THAT good.

Whether you watch it at home or have experienced it in theatres, the story is enthralling and all-absorbing in its imagery. It sparks your imagination while it guides you down its narrow path that seems like it meets no end. If we could stage real life this way, boy would it be bad ass.

The scale is what gets me most. It is not just big to be big, it is big because the world demands it. Every silence feels intentional, every face feels carved out of sand and prophecy, and every decision feels like it was made 1,000 years before the character even knew they were making it. I also think the movie understands patience better than most films do. It does not beg you to care, it slowly surrounds you until you realize you already do. The politics, the religion, the family burden, the fear of becoming something greater and worse than yourself - it all sits there with weight. I could see someone calling it slow, but that feels like calling the ocean repetitive. Sure, it moves in waves, but goodness me, look at what those waves are carrying. Dune is not just watched, it is entered. And when it ends, you feel like you have returned from somewhere ancient, violent, beautiful, and impossibly alive. If you love sci-fi, turn it on tonight. If you hate sci-fi, turn it on right now.

Rating 9.6/10.
